Testicular swelling or inflammation of the testes is generally associated with pain in the testicles and usually requires immediate medical attention.  The inflammation can occur right on the testicles or even on the scrotum area, it can affect one testicles or both, in medical terms like ‘one-sided’ or ‘bilateral’ and in some cases, there might not be any pain, just the noticeable swelling of the scrotum or the testes.

Pain and inflammation in the testicle & scrotum can arise from several different causes, listed are a few:

• Testicular Torsion – When the testicle twists and turns inside the scrotum, thereby, blocking the blood supply to the testicle.
• Anatomical Abnormalities – It can arise from many different reasons, but mainly associated with birth defects.
• Infections – Infections to the testicles and the scrotum from a wide-variety of diseases and micro-organisms.
• Hernia – When an organ like intestine descends inside the scrotum.
• Tumour – Mainly due to testicular cancer.
• Hydrocele – Build-up of fluid around a testicle or at various places inside the scrotum.
• Cysts – Build-up of various forms of cysts, in the internal area and the exterior of the scrotum.
• Varicocele – Enlargement of veins around the testicles and within the scrotum area.
• Sexually Transmitted Diseases – Infections such as gonorrhoea & Chlamydia.

“Needless to say, pain or swelling or even persistent discomfort to the testicles and scrotum must be addressed immediately with a thorough medical attention. There must be regular self-inspection of testicles for new lumps or swellings and any kind of abnormalities must be dealt delicately with upmost care. Most testicular lumps, swelling and inflammations are principally harmless, minor, simple or mild disorders, although, occasionally in some rare cases, it can be a symptom of testicular cancer. Some complications like varicoceles, testicular torsion and hernia might require immediate medical attention, even surgery and these conditions when left untreated my result in infertility and other fatal implications on the reproductive and other vital systems – in a nutshell, swollen testicles should not be ignored,” mentioned Dr. Ali Mehdi Zadeh, Consultant Urologist and Head of Kuwaiti German Urology Unit.

 إلتهاب الخصية والصحة الإنجابية عند الرجل

إلتهاب أو تورم الخصية عادة يكون مصحوباً بألم شديد يستلزم التدخل الطبي السريع. ويمكن أن يحدث الإلتهاب في الخصية أو في منطقة كيس الصفن ويمكن أيضاً أن يحدث الإلتهاب إما على جانب واحد أو على كلا الجانبين. في بعض الحالات لايكون هناك ألم ولكن يوجد فقط تورم في الخصية وكيس الصفن.

ألم وإلتهاب الخصية له أسباب متعددة منها:

– إلتواء الخصية ويحدث عندما تلتوي الخصية داخل كيس الصفن وبالتالي ينقطع الإمداد الدموي للخصية.

– العيوب الخلقية وهذه العيوب تكون موجودة منذ الولادة.

– الإلتهابات وتتسبب في هذه الالتهابات انواع مختلفه من البكتريا.

– الفتاق ويحدث عند نزول أجزاء من الأمعاء إلى داخل كيس الصفن.

– بعض الأورام خصوصاً أورام الخصية.

– تجمع الماء حول الخصية وداخل كيس الصفن .

– وجود بعض االتكيسات الصغيره داخل أو خارج كيس الصفن.

– دوالي الخصية وهي عبارة عن تمدد الأوعيه الدموية حول الخصية وداخل كيس الصفن.

– الأمراض المنتقلة جنسياً مثل السيلان والكلاميديا.

ويجب التنبيه على أن الإحساس بالألم أو التورم أو حتى عدم الإرتياح في منطقة الخصية يستلزم التدخل الطبي السريع.

ومن المهم جداً أن يقوم الشخص بالفحص الذاتي للخصية وملاحظة وجود أي تورمات صغيرة أو أي شئ غير طبيعي في منطقة الخصية يستلزم التدخل الطبي. ويجب أن نطمئن الناس على أن وجود أورام صغيرة أو إلتهابات في منطقة الخصية عادة ماتكون غير ضارة غير أن في بعض الحالات النادرة يمكن أن تكون هذه الأعراض بسبب سرطان الخصية ويكون هناك بعض المضاعفات الخطيرة مثل دوالي الخصية، إلتهاب الخصية، الفتق ويستوجب تدخل طبي عاجل عادة يكون تدخل جراحي. وإذا لم يتم علاج هذه الحالات يمكن أن تؤثر على خصوبة الرجل وتصل إلى العقم.

وأخيراً تورم الخصية لايجب على الإطلاق إهمالها.
