Urge Bladder or Overactive Bladder (OAB) is a bothersome medical condition that affects millions of men and women of all ages, although its incidence increases significantly with age.
It is increased urinary urgency, with or without urge urinary incontinence, usually with frequency and nocturia.
Urge incontinence is defined as the unwanted urine leakage that happens shortly after urgency. It is caused by involuntary bladder contractions that occur after bladder fills. With urge urinary incontinence, a person may be aware of the urge sensation but will be unable to stop leakage before reaching the toilet.
Causes of overactive bladder:
The cause of overactive bladder is a frequent involuntary contraction of the bladder wall muscle, causing a sense of need to urinate even when the bladder is empty. This need to urinate can show suddenly and harshly, which may cause embarrassment. And the patient who suffers from it may have to avoid the social manifestations, sexual intercourse and sports.
Treatment of overactive bladder:
There are different ways to remedy this situation, such as behavioral therapies. Women are advised to do Kegel exercises to tighten the pelvic muscles. Training as going to the toilet at specific times, frequent visits are not encouraged. Also, some medicines and creams to lubricate the vagina after menopause, which contain estrogen proved to be effective for the treatment of overactive bladder. Also, some changes in the diet such as the abolition of caffeine, which increases the activity of the bladder and increase the fiber in food is also useful. In cases not amenable to treatment it can be installed electric induction to regulate the urination.
