Cancer can affect the kidneys, bladder, prostate and testicles and together or collectively or individually these are known as urological cancers.
Kidney Cancer:
There are several types of cancer that can develop in the kidney, but renal cell carcinoma is the most prevalent
Symptoms of Kidney Cancer: Kidney cancer is usually detected “accidentally” ,
Blood in the urine, either seen after urination or microscopically, abdominal mass, pain felt on the side or lower back
Prostate Cancer
A PSA tests the amount of prostate specific antigen in your blood. Normal, high, or rising levels can help your doctor determine whether your prostate is healthy or could be an indicator of BPH or prostate cancer
Symptoms of Prostate Cancer
Burning or pain during urination , inability to urinate ,frequent urination at night, weak urine stream , blood in urine , pelvic pain ,back or hip pain , weight loss.
Testicular Cancer
Testicular cancer can strike adolescent men as young as age 15
Testicular Cancer Symptoms
Painlesslump in the testicle or on both the testicles
Heaviness or feeling of swelling in thescrotum
Discomfort or pain in the scrotum, collection of fluid in the scrotum
Ache in lower back, pelvis or groin area
Bladder cancer
There are 3 types of bladder cancer which can be differentiated by their proliferation
Symptoms of Bladder Cancer :
Blood in the urine, Pain during urination, frequent urination, or feeling the need to urinate without being able to do so.
Diagnosing Cancers : If cancer is suspected, diagnostic studies can include
Ultrasonography , Cystoscopy, Urine culture and Cytology, Biopsy – the removal of cells for examination under a microscope, MRI, CT scan and IVU (intravenous urography) .
Treatment:
Treatment and prognosis depends on the stage and grade of the cancer and the location of the tumor, it can include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, hormone therapy and biological therapy.
