Treatment for minor to extreme kind of hydrocele at Kuwaiti German Urology Unit, Kuwait

A hydrocele is an accumulation of watery fluid inside the scrotum, around one or both testicles, usually with just noticeable to mild swelling of the scrotum or groin area and the occurrence of hydrocele, in most of the cases do not cause any kind of pain and its occurrence is not fatal, unless the build-up of fluids is extreme or might have the potential to cause other kinds of complications.

“Hydroceles can occur in any point of life, even to newborns. When the opening between the abdomen and the scrotum fails to close naturally before or soon after birth, the fluids flows into the scrotum, thereby causing hydrocele to the newborn. The other causes for hydroceles to kids and adults are injuries, surgery, infection or inflammation of testes or epididymis and even cancer in case of older men, especially cancerous growth in kidney and testicle,” mentioned Dr. Ali Mehdi Zadeh, Consultant Urologist and Head of Kuwaiti German Urology Unit.

Dr. Ali adds “A hydrocele can be easily diagnosed with a simple visual examination of the scrotum, transillumination or even by testicular ultrasound. Typically, in young men, body reabsorbs the fluid and hydrocele might self-heal after certain period, however, in older men, this might not be the case and aspiration or surgery (hydrocelectomy) is advised. Although, the type of treatment depends on the diagnosis report, in extremely rare case, hydroceles might affect blood supply to penis, causing impotence in the process.”
