Lifestyle is taking its toll on sexual health of women in Kuwait, says Dr. Ali Mehdi Zadeh
Female arousal disorder or hypoactive sexual desire disorder in female is the intermittent or unrelenting lack of interest in sex and has the potential to cause emotional vacuum, depression, personal distress and relationship issues.
As the human body age, woman’s sexual desire naturally fluctuates over the years. Highs and lows commonly coincide with the beginning or end of a relationship or with major life changes, such as pregnancy, menopause or illness. Some antidepressants and anti-seizure medications also can cause low sex drive in women.
“Apart from medications, illness like high blood pressure, diabetes, arthritis, cancer and neurological diseases can be responsible for lack of sexual interest. The other factors that affect libido in women include conflicts and flights with partner, alcohol & drug abuse, low self-esteem, smoking, poor body image, fatigue, surgery, injuries, history of sexual abuse or awful previous sexual experiences, ageing and other kind of hormonal fluctuations including menopause, menstruations, pregnancy, mood swings or even breastfeeding might play spoilsport,” mentioned Dr. Ali Mehdi Zadeh, Consultant Urologist and Head of Kuwaiti German Urology Unit.
“Low sex drive in women can be treated with lifestyle changes, use of better techniques and also with medications that will set the mood for a stress-free life. In some cases, psychological and other kind of antidepressants might affect sex-drive.”
Dr. Ali added “Although, there is no any definite or pre-defined figures to define the threshold of low sex drive, the actual urge for sex usually varies from woman to woman.”
