Undescended testicles if left untreated will lead to infertility in men
Testicles are fully developed inside the womb and just before the birth, testicles of the baby move down into the scrotum. Normally, this phenomenon of the movement of testicles from the abdomen into the scrotum occurs inside the womb or during the first three months after the birth. If one or both testes fail to descend into the scrotum, this kind of disorder is known as undescended testicle.
“Undescended testicles usually occur when the baby is born prematurely and as the foetus grows the testicles drops into the scrotum within three to six months and if it fails to drop on its own, a minor laparoscopic surgery is recommended. Undescended testicles, ectopic or retractile testicles, which is a trivial kind of disorder and can be cured completely if detected and treated early, before the baby’s first birthday should not be confused with more complex ‘Absent Testicles’ which is altogether a different kind of disorder. Undescended testicles if left untreated will result in infertility and in some rare cases, the individual with undescended testicles might develop testicular cancer later in his life,” said Dr. Ali Mehdi Zadeh, Consultant Urologist and Head of Kuwaiti German Urology Unit.
